28 players represented Wealdstone in tonight's friendly at Harrow Boro, as both Managers chose to field entriely different sides in each half of the game - no doubt not wishing to give too much away to League rivals, but also to put a strong test in place for a number of trialists.
Stones started with a strong line-up, most of whom have started the two previous friendlies, and they were into their stride early on agaionst a Boro side mainly made up of Reserves and Trialists, so it was no great surprise that Wealdstone won the half 3 - 0.
The three goals were scored by Jolly as he ran onto a through ball from Adolphe on 25 minutes givingh the home keeper no chance from close range.
The second was route one at it's best as a long clearance from Ling bounced clear of the defence, Jolly and Beckford ran through, Jolly tipped the ball over the on-rushing keeper who brought him down and Beckford just reached the ball to tap in from in front of the post.
The third saw Keepence turn and shoot from 12 yards when the ball broke to him from a corner on 35 minutes.
The seconmd half was a different story as a stronger Boro side took on a mixture oflast season's squad, youth and trialists and Boro dominated for the first 25 minutes of the half scoring from two set pieces - the first a low shot from a free kick and the second an excellent header as the ball was crossed in, but from then on the game evened out as boro were unable to break through for the equaliser.
A good work out for both squads then, resulting in a 3 - 2 win for Stones.
Team Details:
1st Half: Ling, Harding, Burrell,
Harris, Keepence, Baptiste, Adolphe, Walker, Beckford, Jolly, Smith.
2nd Half: Ling, Harding (s60
Ledger) Lancaster, (s80 Leese), Limbrick, Tucker (s70 Montgomery),
Ryan, Farrell, Turner, Adolphe (s60 Cooper), Shaw, Beckford (s60
Gedeking)
Stones again fielded a number of new players along with those from last season as they took on Hanwell Town, who earlier this week lost 4-1 to a strong AFC Winbledon side.
Though Stones started brighly, and could have opened the scoring through Beckford and Jolly, it was the home side that took the lead when a poor backpass from Keepence gave Ling no chance as tucker slotted home on seven minutes.
The remainder of the first half belonged to Wealdstone, Beckford beating his man and shooting low inside the near postto equalise on 21 minutes, Walker running strongly through the midfield sent a chip to the back of the six yard box where Harris nodded home the second on 25 minutes. Then an airkick by a defender wriong footed the home goalkeeper on 31 minutes, Beckford's low cross finding Jolly to tap home into an empty net, and a great run from Harris allowed him to lay the ball wide to Harding, his cross met by Beckford to make the half time score 4-1 to Wealdstone.
The first minute of the second half brought two goals, both scored by Stones player in similar fashion to make the score 5-2 - confused? let me explain. Stones kicked off, the ball played back to midfield as the side moved forward then a long cross to the back post from Dave Ryan was met by a run into the box from Dean Hardin, his looping header finding the far corner. From the kick off, Hanwell pressed forward and a high ball to the edge of the penalty box was met by Harris as Ling uin goal called 'keeper's' - Harris' looping header clearing the visiting keeper and bouncing into the net!
Numerous changes shanged the pace of the game a little, though Stones remained on top and they extended their lead on 77 minuted when Jolly scored a penalty after Cooper was brought down, then on 85 minutes Cooper wrapped up the scoring, sliding a Turner cross just inside the post for a final score of 7-2.
Team Details: Russell Ling, Dean Harding, Louis Lancaster, Liam Baptiste, Andy Keepence, Ryan Harris, Dave Ryan, Luke Smith, Jermaine Beckford, Richard Jolly, Marvin Walker. Subs during 2nd half: Jason Shaw, Josh Cooper, Lee Holland, Phil Turner, Greg Farrell, Graham Montgomery.
A much changed Stones took the side for the first pre-season friendly this afternoon at Metropolitan Police, evenutually running out winners by 2 - 1. Richard Jolly opened the scoring for Stones on 43 minutes from a pass from Walker, and in a melee of changes the home side equalised midway through the second half, before substitute Jermaine Beckford restored Stones lead with around ten minutes to go after a good interchange with Josh Cooper.
Team Details: Russell Ling, Dean
Harding, Gary Burrell, Dave Norman, Andy Keepence, Ryan Harris, Dave
Ryan, Marvin Walker, Luke Smith, Junior Thompson, Richard Jolly. HT
Subs; John Christian For Luke Smith, Jason Shaw For Dave Ryan,
Richard Morton for Junior Thompson, 60 mins Subs

Jolly signs on for two more years
Wealdstone fans will be celebrating
this week after hearing that top striker Richard Jolly has signed a
new deal with the Club.
Jolly 22, has been the Club's top
scorer for the past two seasons, amassing 78 goals in just 133
matches for the Stones. A record last season of 34 goals from 53
games had made Jolly a target for many of the big spending clubs in
the division, and his resigning for the Club represents something of
a coup.
Despite some attractive offers from
elsewhere the player has decided to stay with Wealdstone, a decision
that will delight Wealdstone supporters and has already thrilled
manager Gordon Bartlett, who said "if we are to be successful
this coming season, we must keep our best players and 'Jolls'
certainly comes into that category. We are building for success and I
am delighted that Richard is keen to be part of that and this is
another sign of how the Club is moving forward".
Richard Jolly said, "I am
delighted to stay with Wealdstone. Like everyone else I was down at
the end of last season but I have been impressed by what has happened
at the Club over the summer. Although I had other offers, I was
always keen to stay.
"Wealdstone are still a big
name club with a bright future that I want to share in. I enjoy
playing in front of so many passionate fans and hopefully I will be
able to keep scoring the goals to get us up the right end of the
table next season".
Jolly's re-signing comes hot on the
heels of recent announcements that have included Wealdstone's
relocation to Northwood, and the appointment of Andy Leese onto the
management .
Leese joins Stones as first
major signing of the summer
Former Cheshunt and Boreham Wood
manager Andy Leese has joined Wealdstone to form a new and exciting
management team together with Stones supremo Gordon Bartlett.
Leese 42, will work closely with
Bartlett who has recently passed 10 years in charge of the Stones.
Current Wealdstone assistant manager Leo Morris will continue to work
alongside Bartlett and Leese. At the same time coach Fred Cummings
has left the club by mutual consent.
Gordon Bartlett described the
changes as very exciting. "I wanted to shake things up around
the place and make changes that would affect the attitude around the
whole club. Our move to Northwood, the use of the Fitness First
facilities and now Andy joining us has already helped us change the
atmosphere around here. At the same time I must thank Fred for all
his help, hard work and input over the past few seasons and I'm sure
I am not alone in wishing him well in the future.
"Circumstances at the end of
last season meant we needed to freshen things up and I am thrilled
that Andy has decided to join us. I have got to know him well over
the past few seasons, and always been very impressed by his methods
and professionalism. His background is similar to ours, he plays the
game in the right way and he comes to the club fully aware of the
expectations and the financial restraints here at Wealdstone. He is
very much up for the battle and his enthusiasm and hunger for success
can only be of benefit to the club ".
Andy Leese commented "I was
flattered to be asked by Gordon to join a club with the stature and
support of Wealdstone. It represents a great challenge for myself and
the club, in what looks like being a very competitive Premier
Division. Gordon has been very frank in terms of the financial
resources at the club, and we know we have to develop a squad that is
both competitive and continually improving. We have the same work
ethic and philosophy about the game, and I believe we can establish
ourselves in this division as a team that is attractive to watch and
difficult to beat. Gordon's record in the game as a manager and coach
is first class, and as an ambitious coach myself, I am looking
forward to working with and learning from him over the coming months".
Bringing in a new face into such an
established club won't be easy though as Bartlett readily admits,
"this will be different for all of us but we are all committed
to making it work. I am already enjoying working with Andy and feel
confident this is the start of a long and successful partnership, as
we continue to climb back up the non-league ladder, against all the odds".
With odds of 50-1 and everything
that is happening, it could be fair to say that Wealdstone might just
surprise a few people this season.
17th June
Stones first pre-season training session got undr way last night with 31 players in attendance which included a number of last seasons squad, some new faces that may or may not be signed and also a copuple of trialists.
More will be known about the squad over the next few weeks and any confirmed players joining or leaving will be listed on here.....
Wealdstone move to Northwood
Agreement has been reached
between Wealdstone FC and Northwood FC for Wealdstone to share at
Chestnut Avenue for the forthcoming season.
This means that Wealdstone
will be leaving the White Lion Ground after sharing with Edgware Town
for the past ten years. Club chairman Nick Symmons commented; It
was increasingly apparent that we could not guarantee that the
facilities at Edgware would be suitable for Ryman Premier League
football. Northwood offered us an opportunity not only to move to a
ground well known for its excellent pitch and facilities but also to
enter into an agreement that will benefit both clubs over the coming months.
A groundshare agreement for 3
years has been agreed, although this includes break clauses that can
be activated as and when the Prince Edward Playing Field development
is completed.
Northwood secretary Alan
Evans said, We hope Wealdstones players and supporters
enjoy their time with us, on and off the field, and we will do our
best to make them feel welcome for as long as is necessary. Were
sure that having Wealdstone here will help Northwood FC too, and
with two sides at Premier Division level on alternate weeks it should
be attractive to the local population as well!
Nick Symmons added, with
our new ground at Prince Edward under development we have built some
good links with the community around the Edgware, Stanmore and
Cannons Park areas. It is up to us to ensure this does not go to
waste, but at the same time we now have the opportunity to start
building similarly good links with schools and youth groups in and
around the Northern side of the Borough, which we will seek to carry
over into Prince Edward.
The two clubs will cement
their agreement when they meet in a pre-season friendly on Tuesday
9th August, however the Clubs will not be meeting in league
competition this coming season as Northwood have moved across into
the Southern Premier League.
Groundsharing with Northwood
represents Wealdstones 4th groundshare agreement since leaving
Lower Mead in 1991, following spells at Watford, Yeading and for the
past decade at Edgware.
NORTHWOOD FOOTBALL CLUB
PRESS RELEASE
Northwood Football Club today
announced that it has agreed a groundshare of their home at Chestnut
Avenue with Wealdstone Football Club for the forthcoming season 2005/2006.
It is a three-year agreement
but with break clauses included which will allow Wealdstone to move
to their new home at Prince Edwards Playing Fields as and when it
becomes available.
With Northwood FC having been
transferred to the Southern Football League for the new season, the
Club faces extra costs and this arrangement is expected to be
beneficial to both clubs. This will mean that there will be Premier
Division football played at Chestnut Avenue every week throughout
2005/2006 and the two clubs will work closely to ensure that the
partnership runs smoothly.
Northwood FC Football
Secretary Alan Evans said Both our sides have financial
limitations for one reason or another at present and this arrangement
should be mutually beneficial. We have built an excellent
relationship with the Board Members at Wealdstone over the years and
this helped pave the way towards a quick agreement being drawn up. We
hope Wealdstones players and supporters enjoy their time with
us, on and off the field, and we will do our best to make them feel
welcome for as long as is necessary.
The two clubs will cement
their agreement when they meet in a pre-season friendly at Chestnut
Avenue on Tuesday 9th August 2005.

Fitness First to help get
fitter players
Building on last week's article about the future, Wealdstone are pleased to announce the first new tie up with a major local company, Fitness First in Pinner, who will be providing the Stones with valuable and quality indoor training facilities through the coming season.
Manager Gordon Bartlett said he was
delighted to have made this agreement as it will go a long way to
improving the fitness and strength of the players. He said he hoped
this would be the first of a number of such agreements.
Scholarship trials excite
Stones boss
Having completed the two trials for
their football scholarship programme Wealdstone manager Gordon
Bartlett excitedly said the standard of football was as good if not
better then any he had seen from any equivalent event.
184 hopefuls, aged 16-17, tried out
in order to grab a place on the much coveted Football Scholarship
programme run jointly between Wealdstone FC and Stanmore College.
Having viewed the range of abilities on offer, 34 boys have been
offered places on next year's scheme, starting in September.
Bartlett said, "It is very
satisfying to see the popularity of the scheme and the quality
available. With so many good players on show we had some difficult
choices to make. Our job now will be to work with Stanmore and ensure
that we can develop the abilities of these boys both on the pitch as
well as in the classroom and hope we can help them to have a future
in the game, and preferably with Wealdstone".
Players of the quality of Marvin
Morgan (sold to League Champions Yeading last season) and Jermaine
Beckford have become regular first team players for the Club and
hopes are high for many of the current crop such as Lee Holland, and
the two Martin brothers, Carl and Callum, who both played for the
England Schoolboys team in the past year.
Bartlett pointed out "we are
lucky to have a college like Stanmore on board. We manage the
football and the College look after the academic side of things and
this gives the boys a great opportunity to develop on and off the pitch".
The scholarship has been run for
the past three years with Stanmore, giving the students access to a
range of A and AS level courses as well as other relevant qualifications.
Wealdstone Youth Director Paul
Fruin, who has been involved with the Scholarship scheme since its
inception nine years ago, said that the new players would have a
difficult act to follow. "Last season's team enjoyed one of the
great nights in the Club's history when playing at Anfield against
Liverpool FC in the 3rd Round of the FA Youth Cup, and the team from
the previous season won the treble of Allied Counties League, League
and County Cups. Having seen the trials I would be optimistic that we
have a group who can enjoy similar success in the future".
Fruin added, "The one area we
are still looking is for a goalkeeper. If there is a goalkeeper, aged
16-17, interested in coming on the course they should call me on
07790 038095."

Wealdstone begin the fight back
It is a case of the future
starts now for Wealdstone FC as the Club's Board of Directors
signalled the first of a series of changes designed to get the Club
marching purposefully into the future.
Club director Howard Krais
declared, "we have come out of a difficult end to last season,
and since then we have had a number of discussions, the outcomes of
which will see a number of changes in the way we run the club. We are
planning to create some real momentum over the summer and we are
planning a series of announcements that will signify some fundamental
changes at the Club.
At the forefront of these
changes are some major changes to the Board itself. Krais explained,
"We are still working out the fine detail of how the board will
be constituted and will announce the full details at our forthcoming
AGM in [date]. The changes are designed to create some new dynamism
and challenge on the board so we can be really focused on what we are
trying to achieve. Furthermore, we are also upping the search for an
individual or a group of people who could bring new investment and
new energy into the Club.
"We believe that this
would be the right time for someone with new blood to come on board.
We need someone either looking to invest their own money into a
football club or else someone with contacts and the ability to help
us up to the next level, both on and off the field. Those involved
with the Club can only do so much and we are challenging ourselves
with upping the anti, so now would be a great time for someone to
come forward."
Krais pointed out that
despite the doom that accompanied the dismal end to the season, both
on and off the field the Club have much to be proud of and have the
foundations in place to progress.
"We have one of the
foremost youth set-ups outside of the football league, which includes
two England youth players and the run we enjoyed in last season's FA
Youth Cup, which ended at Anfield against Champions League winners
Liverpool, was one of the great days in the Club's history. Our
reserves did fantastically well to finish second in the Suburban
League and with the first, reserves and youth team we have
successfully operated 4 separate groundshare agreements over the last
year. The very fact that we continue to play at Ryman Premier League
level with possibly the smallest budget in the league is testament
particularly to Gordon Bartlett's abilities and we shouldn't forget
an FA Cup run last season which took us through to the 4th qualifying
round and included a victory over runaway Nationwide Conference South
and FA Trophy winners, Grays Athletic."
Despite not having their own
home ground for 14 years, Wealdstone remain the best supported Club
in the local area, with an average crowd still higher than the likes
of Hayes, Hendon, Harrow Borough, Yeading and Northwood, and showing
a rise of 15% on the previous season.
Krais concluded "Our
manager Gordon Bartlett signalled his own determination to take an
increasingly positive approach in a Harrow Observer interview a
couple of weeks ago, and Wealdstone's board entirely share this
sentiment. However if someone was thinking about getting involved in
the borough's biggest Club either through their own investment or
else through sponsorship or advertising then we would be delighted to
hear from them and they could contact me on 07789 376503."

Man City unveil Pearce as manager
Manchester City have named Stuart
Pearce as their new boss. The 43-year-old has held the position in a
caretaker role since Kevin Keegan quit as boss two months ago.
Pearce, a former Wealdstone player
and England captain, has led the club to eighth place in the
Premiership and on the brink of a place in the Uefa Cup. Chairman
John Wardle had intended to name Keegan's successor in the summer but
changed his plans given the impact Pearce has had on the Eastlands outfit.
Wardle admitted new manager Pearce
was the 'outstanding' candidate for the position. "He has shown
the all-round ability and qualities to be manager of this club on and
off the pitch," said Wardle. "We have received numerous
applications for the job but we didn't feel there was any need to
continue the process. Stuart is the outstanding candidate. "The
board look forward to working with him and to building on our progress."
The announcement will have the
overwhelming backing of the City squad, and the club's supporters and
should guarantee a full house for Sunday's crucial clash with Middlesbrough.
Victory is almost certain to
guarantee European football next season, an unthinkable prospect when
the former England skipper took charge.

Bartlett and Nick Symmons also updated those present on the feelings

It hasn't taken a week to update the site for any other reason than i went on holiday, but it was a good week to refelct.
On the last Saturday of the season, Stones were beaten 3-1 at Salisbury - despite a decent performance early on and forcing the home side to clear their lines. Defensive frailties conceded another goal on 9 minutes and a Jolly penalty miss somewhat knocked the heart out of the comeback.
With ten minutes or so to go, Robin Tucker scored from a Brian Jones free kick - perhaps the home keeper should have done better - but it turned out to be a very important goal, as had the score finished 3-0, Wealdstone would have been relegated and Cheshunt would have survived.
Points the same and goal difference the same, it came down to goals scored - Wealdstone had scored two more - ironically i suppose Tucks had scored the last two in similar style, both in defeats, but it was enough to see Stones stay up.
After a season of highs and lows, if we had been offered this finish at the start of the season with a limited budget we would have taken it, but I hope players and management look back at the season and ask themselves why a nine game winless run dragged us back into the mire - the team proved on a number of occassions that they were good enough to compete with the best, yet at other times they would have struggled in the local park.
There is no doubt that the ability
is there in the squad and the side. Perhaps after a summer rest,
players and management alike will come back refreshed and prove it.
The reserves however finished with
an excellent Runners Up spot in the Suburban League Premier Division
- there are a number of these players that will surely figure in next
season's first team.......
Wealdstone Res 4 - 1 Marlow Res.
Today's team as follows: D Godfey,
M Hahn, D Cambell (70), D Cahill, N McDonald, D Morley, L Holland
(60), J Sparrowhawk, C Phillips, A Gediking, J Christian (60). Subs M
Delaney (on for J C 60 mins), T Robinson (on for L H 60 mins), O
Thomas (on for D C 70 mins), A McGovern (not used), M Lavender (not used).
That's the season over for us and
we finished second, should have could have done better. Some may say
that we did well for our first season in the premier division, we did
bit we could have done much, much better.
Anyway today's game, the opposition
were poor, after 10 mins C Philips scored with a cracking drive from
all of 20 yards. After 35 minutes of 90% of the play we made it 2-0
when D Cahill took a free kick on the far left hand side about 30
yards out. He took the free kick and floated the ball into the
penalty area, no one touch it and it just sailed into an empty net.
On the stroke of half time M Hahn takes a corner, I am not sure if it
was the wind or Mitch's skill but he scores direct from the corner
the ball curled at a 45% angle to go in at the far post from were the
corner was taken.
Then on 80 minutes T Robinson takes
a free kick from the edge of their 18 yard box and makes it 4-1.
End of season, see you next season.....

Wealdstone Res 1 - 0 Wingate &
Finchley Res.
D Godfrey, John Christian (first
game, sent off), D Cambell, D Cahill, N McDonald, D Morley, Lee
Holland (scored 84th Minute, that's his first goal of the season), J
Sparrowhawk, C Phillips, A Gediking, M Delaney ( I cannot believe
that he did not get booked in this game, he was subbed on 75 mins for
W Palace).
Subs: W Palace (75 mins for M D), M
Lavender (not used).
The game if you can call it that!
We were poor in the first half, but we improved in the second half.
John Christian was sent off for two bookings the second of which was
a poor decision by the referee we should appeal that. Both Lee
Holland and John Christians did well, Lee scoring his first goal of
this current season. Lee broke through just before the end of this
hard fought match and placed the ball past the Wingate keeper.
Although Wingate did have a lot of
possession through out the game they did not look that good in the
last third of the field.
With one game to go we need one
point to finish second, Uxbridges goal differents is half ours they
would have to win 10-0 if we draw, if we win we finish second not bad
for our first season in the Premiership.
Terry
26th April
Tonight's team: D Godfrey (80), D
Cahill (67), D Cambell, L Henderson, N McDonald, D Morley, L Holland,
J Sparrowhawk, C Phillips (70), A Gediking, M Delaney. Subs: W Palace
(67 Mins for D Cahill), A McGovern (70 mins for C Phillips), M
Lavender (80 mins for D Godfrey).
The first thing I have to say about
this game is normal service was reintroduced against Uxbridge,
today's game makes it 5 wins from 6 games this season. One of the
reserves best games for a long time, every person whom played today
did well.
Our first goal came from a seven
pass move finishing with Joe Sparrowhawk scoring from close in with
his head an excellent goal well taken by Joe.
The second goal was a cracker from
Alec Gediking a volley from the edge of the Uxbridge penalty area.
Alec volleyed the ball home, he was wide right and the ball travelled
across his body he was facing away from the Uxbridge goal and he sort
of swivelled as he struck a tremendous shot across the face of the
keeper from 18/20 yards.
Chris Phillips goal, a thing of
real beauty seeing Chris Phillips launch himself like a flying salmon
(where do I get this stuff) to head home to make it 3-0 Stones. Great
result I just love it when we win like this.
When you look at some of our
results the season we have beaten all the top teams, if we can
continue tonight's form through to the last two games of the season
we could finish second.
Lee Holland did very well tonight
as did all the guys. But for me Neil McDonald played well today and
Neil gets my nod today for man of the match.

Harrow Council and Wealdstone
FC release statements on the Prince Edward Playing Fields Development
Further delays for Wealdstone
FC on Prince Edward Playing Fields
Wealdstone Football Club announced
this week that Scarborough Development Group has pulled out of
Wealdstone Stadia Management Limited and therefore from the Prince
Edward playing field project that would have seen Wealdstone FC
relocating back to Harrow in 2006. This decision has come about
following further consideration of the project by Scarborough
together with the Bank of Scotland, which led to a view that this
project was taking them away from their core business interests and
therefore not one they wished to put further resources into.
The timing of this decision comes
at a bad time for Wealdstone FC who were expecting work to restart
shortly on the site. This follows a period of weeks when remedial
work was going on to make the club building on the site wind and watertight.
Wealdstone spokesman Howard Krais
said, "Obviously we are very disappointed by Scarborough's
actions, in particular the timing and there is no use pretending it
is not a blow for everyone at the football club. However we are used
to adversity by now at Wealdstone and we will fight on."
Krais continued "Of course we
are very disappointed with Scarborough's decision. However, it is not
all bad news. We have been greatly encouraged by the positive
interest of several parties, most notably from Harrow Council, who
are working hard with us to find a long term solution. It is too
early to start talking about timescales but we are optimistic that we
can move quickly to get some in-principle agreements to finding new
partners who are keen to see the site through to completion.
Harrow Council ready to do all
it can to help Wealdstone Football Club
Harrow Council will do "all
it possibly can" to help Wealdstone Football Club and its
supporters fulfil their dream of playing on their own pitch in
comfortable surroundings, the leader of the council, Navin Shah, said
today (Monday).
The club announced at the weekend
that the Bank of Scotland and its development partner Scarborough
Development Group had withdrawn from a project to build a new stadium
for Wealdstone FC at Prince Edward playing field in Harrow, leaving
the stadium unfinished.
But Cllr Shah said :" Harrow
Council has no intention of deserting the football club at its moment
of need. We will do all we possibly can to support the club and its
fans by looking very carefully at all the options open to the club
and offering expert advice.
"We are ready to help the
club by using our contacts to look for a new commercial partner - the
important thing is that we can reach a position as quickly as
possible which will enable us all to move on."
Cllr Shah added: " The
council puts the provision of sports and leisure facilities high
amongst its priorities and I hope we can not only help in securing
Wealdstone FC's vision but also provide sporting facilities for the
community on the playing field site."
Councillors are expected to
consider a detailed report on options available in the next few weeks.
