Harold Smith, first Wealdstone player to be transferred into the professional ranks in 1930, after seven years with the Club.
He was discovered playing Inside-left for Wealdstone Wednesday and was also a member of the successful Watford St Mary's team. He played with the Reserves as a forward, and since he gained his place in the first team, he fulfilled many positions with success. He played centre-half for several seasons, and in that position he had few equals in the Athenian League.
As he was an Amateur, there was no Transfer involved, merely a matter of the professional club inviting him to join, and he was quite at liberty to accept, which he did. This was though, a time when gentlemen were involved in both the amateur and professional game, and Notts County therefore chose to compensate Wealdstone for the loss of their Club Captain.
The first 'official' transfer fee received by Wealdstone from another club is duly recorded as £10 0s 0d, a full set of shirts for the first team and confirmation that Notts County would bring down a full first team for a friendly match later in the season.
The Harrow Observer also kept Wealdstone fans in touch with the career of Harold Smith. It reported in early March 1931, Harold having left the club in the early part of the season, that "many supporters of the Wealdstone Club will follow with interest the career of Harold Smith who left the club some months ago to join the professional ranks of Notts County. Smith, I am able to say, is making excellent progress, and has created a highly favourable impression in Third League football. His play has frequently been praised by the critics.........."
