The employees of a firm of gunsmiths, Messrs Cogswell and Harrison, appear to have been the pioneers of organised football in Wealdstone. The firm came to the district from Birmingham in 1887, and its Managing Director, Mr Edgar Harrison took great interest in his employees ' football activities. Two local rivals for his 'Works' team were Wealdstone Mission FC and The Oaks, which was a side made up of the clerical staff of Cogswell and Harrison.
As an example of the spirit throughout the company, the employees pioneered The Oaks Football Club. In the late 1880's the first Wealdstone Football Club was formed. Mr Edgar Harrison patronised the club and Mr Meadows, a foreman, was elected Secretary.
